Growing up in a nominally Christian home, Eugene falsely believed that he was a Christian throughout his adolescent and college years. But in his senior year at the University of California, Berkeley (from which he graduated with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering and a B.A. in Molecular Cell Biology with a Biochemistry emphasis), God in His infinite mercy convicted Eugene of his sin, drew him to believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and saved him from eternal separation from Himself in hell.

Two years after graduating from college, Eugene felt God’s call into ministry, and began his theological training at Fuller Theological Seminary. In subsequent years, Eugene would serve in various English ministry settings within the Korean-American church, including youth, college, and young adult ministries.

However, after many years of serving in the church, Eugene became convicted of his lack of spiritual maturity and sound Biblical wisdom. He rededicated himself and enrolled at The Master’s Seminary, from which he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 2009.

Upon graduation, Eugene served for several years as a lay leader in the local church, primarily as worship leader and as Bible teacher in single adult and men’s ministries. Within that same period, he taught at The Master’s University as an adjunct professor and at Northridge Community School as a Bible and Science teacher. He also held a secular job for twenty years as owner/instructor at Keystone Academy, an after-school tutoring center specializing in standard test preparation and academic tutoring for grades K-12.

In 2015, Eugene came to Granada Hills Community Church to serve as Associate Pastor under then Pastor-Teacher Ron Seidel, who faithfully shepherded the church for 43 years. Upon Pastor Ron’s retirement in June of 2025, by God’s grace Eugene was called to be the next Pastor-Teacher.

Eugene’s favorite pastimes include hiking a good trail, watching a good movie, and sharing a good meal.
